Complication Spectrum Following Expanded Endoscopic Endonasal Surgery for Intradural Skull Base Tumors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

A systematic review and meta-analysis of complications following expanded endoscopic endonasal surgery for adult intradural skull-base tumors.

Hafiz and colleagues synthesized the contemporary literature on complications after expanded endoscopic endonasal approaches for intradural skull-base tumors. The review highlights the variability in how postoperative complications are defined and reported across series, with cerebrospinal fluid leakage remaining one of the most consistently reported adverse events.

Why it matters

As expanded endonasal surgery continues to reach more complex intradural targets, complication reporting becomes increasingly important for patient selection, informed consent, reconstruction strategies and meaningful comparison between surgical series. This paper provides a useful overview of the current evidence and its limitations.
