Advancing Evidence Quality and Reproducibility in Endoscopic Endonasal Surgery for Pituitary Neuroendocrine Tumors: A Systematic Review and Reporting Guideline

A systematic review evaluating the quality and completeness of outcome reporting in endoscopic endonasal surgery for pituitary neuroendocrine tumors, with a proposed reporting guideline.

Arend, Garcia, Tapia Borges, De Notaris, Agosti, Ramina and colleagues reviewed 30 studies representing approximately 15,800 patients.

The authors identified substantial heterogeneity and underreporting across several domains, including comorbidities, intraoperative adverse events, surgeon experience, retreatment rates and anesthetic protocols.

They propose an Endoscopic Endonasal Pituitary Neuroendocrine Tumor Reporting Guideline intended to improve reproducibility, transparency and comparability across future clinical studies.

Why it matters

This article is particularly relevant for teams conducting clinical research in pituitary surgery. Standardized reporting can improve multicenter comparisons, database design and interpretation of surgical outcomes, although the proposal should be viewed as a methodological framework rather than a validated clinical guideline.
